The “Northern” Route with standing mast:
There are many possible routes of sailing trough friesland with standing rig. We like to advise you before departure.From Maran on the Terkaplester pools and Terherne via the Princess Margriet Canal to the Pikmeer in Grouw, much more fun, however, while still the "boring" channel with its commercial shipping bypasses of the Terkaplester pools on the Sylroede the Tjeardsrak, the Peanster Burstumer Rak, Douwe Ie and the Pikmeer to Grou.
The route runs North from Grou largely about the Wergeasterfeart and connect at the level of National Highway 31 (Wâldwei) to the new Lake in the new residential area southern neighbors on the South side of Leeuwarden. In the national road is an aqueduct built.
From Leeuwarden you can sail North again towards Dokkum and the lauwersmeer or by franeker to Harlingen. After which the Wadden Sea with its unique Islands a possibility.
The South West Route:
From the Terkaplester pools to the Sneekermeer Lake then through the langweerder wheels, Tjeukermeer, slotermeer with its unique town Sloten. Heegermeer, Fluessen and then you various choices to make. Western to sail by beautiful nature to another one of the eleven cities Workum and possibly prosecuted to the IJsselmeer or Wadden Sea.
Note: Only suitable for vessels with a vertical clearance to 11.50 mtr!
Or eastern direction through the water sports village Woudsend the medieval town or continueng to for example the newly furnished Tjeukemeer (vertical clearance 11.50 mtr.) or Lemmer with it's entrance gates to the IJsselmeer.
Note: For ships with a vertical clearance of more than 11.50 mtr!
From the Terkaplester pools to the Sneekermeer Lake, through the city Sneek along the water port sailing by IJlst to Heegermeer, possibly further sagging to Workum or Stavoren to the IJsselmeer on to sail.
On and around these lakes you will find a lot of other possibilities of checking out. Like marinas and typical Frisian watersports villages.
There are different routes possible from Maran to the gates of the IJsselmeer.
The fastest route, about 3 to 3.5 hours, runs through the Sneekermeer Lake following the Princess Margriet Canal to Lemmer.
When you take this route you are missing the unique atmosphere and experience of sailing on the Frisian Lakes along the typical Frisian cities and water sport villages.
Along the Southwest route, sailing by Workum takes approximately 5 to 6 hours,more southern to Stavoren over 6 hours.
